Yep, still grinning along with The Rachel Zoe Project on Bravo. And you don’t have to watch it to appreciate one character on the show who deserves a serious shout-out: Rachel’s husband Rodger.
One thing I talk about in Meeting Your Half-Orange—and what I always encourage singles to think about—is how they want to feel in the relationship of their dreams. Do you want to feel…loved? Adored? Funny? Appreciated? Supported? Sometimes it helps to look at real people who represent the heart or character of someone you want in your life, to imagine yourself on the other side of how they’d make you feel. And if you’re a woman looking for a guy, you’d do well to learn from Rodger.
According to Bravo, Rachel and Rodger Berman met while working at restaurants in Washington D.C. in 1991, married in 1998, “and have been each other’s best friends for the last 17 years.” On this weeks’s episode, fashion stylist Rachel was feeling insecure about a bad press blurb written up on her, and turned to Rodger for support. “I try to just be there for her and let her know that things are gonna be okay,” he said on the show. Then, as he made her a hot cup of tea and a pita-something full of “awesomeness,” this is what he told her:
It’s gonna be good, its gonna be bad, it’s all it is. And you just gotta understand, get a thick skin, know that the people who love you—like me—know what you’re really about . . . Who cares if some loser thinks you’re a certain way?
Then he placed the cup of tea in front of her. “Even with a little plate underneath it,” he smiled.
See? That’s the kind of guy every girl deserves—and guys, you should be lucky enough to get a woman to do the same. The old “you should both fetch each other’s slippers” kind of relationship. We all deserve a partner in life who can do three things for us every day: Someone who will make us feel loved, make us feel respected, and make us feel appreciated every single day. So think about that from now on, and how good you’ll feel when you get it. And when things go right, you’ll have your very own Rodger to call your own.
