VITAMIN OPTIMISM: Love Like You Can’t Fail
Your dose for today…
“Act as if it were impossible to fail.”
—Dorothy Broude
I’ve always loved this quote. And while it usually brings career and work to mind first for me, we can treat our love lives with these same words. If you’re single and dating, act as if you will have the love of your life coming soon. Act as if you couldn’t possibly fail at getting the family and relationship you dream of. If you act as if you’ll have it, then I have no doubt it will come.
Big love,
VITAMIN OPTIMISM: Don’t Try…Just Be
Your dose for today…
“I always thought ‘trying’ was a weak word.”
—Guy outside a Marianne Willamson lecture.
And he’s right. Trying is a weak word. The way I see it, here’s what I want you do to for today: Don’t try to do…do. Don’t try to be…be. Don’t try to love…love.
Big love,
VITAMIN OPTIMISM: Forget the Damn Lion!
Your dose for today…
“Optimist: A man who is chased up a tree by a lion but enjoys the scenery anyway.”
—Walter Winchell
There are lions everywhere in life. And when you’re single, it’s usually that element of your life that roars in your face every day: “I’m single! I’m alone! I’ll never meet anyone! I’m screwed!” Sure, maybe you are single and feel alone. But as a dating optimist, you know you will meet someone. And instead of being torn apart by the roar of that lion, you, too, can enjoy the scenery of your life right now during the chase. And what a scene it is when you look, right?
Big love,
VITAMIN OPTIMISM: Dance Your Dance
Your dose for today…
Today’s Vitamin is in honor of my sister, Liz, whose birthday it is today. Liz, sorry I can’t be there to celebrate with you, but Happy Happy Birthday!
“Stand up and dance the dance you were born to dance.”
—Marianne Willamson, given at her lecture on 3/16/10
I don’t care if you’re a good dancer or not, you know what she means. There is something powerful inside each and every one of us, and if you haven’t yet found what that is—what moves you, what drives you, what brings out your best—then start looking. Bring your half-orange the best and truest version of yourself. The closer you get to dancing your dance, the sooner you’ll feel when you’ve truly found your other half.
Big love,
Vitamin Optimism: Plant Your Apple Tree
Your dose for today…
“Even if I knew that tomorrow the world would go to pieces, I would still plant my apple tree.”
—Martin Luther
I love this. It’s such a simple way to remind us that we can’t keep living for our futures. Yes, of course you want a great future, a great love, a family perhaps. But just because you may not yet have those gifts in your life, you have others. Your life today is a gift. Don’t waste it. Not a second.
Big love,
